For 50 years Superior Signal Company, Inc. has provided industry with quality products
at attractive prices. The Superior Signal Company, located in
Old Bridge, NJ, 35 miles
south of mid-town New York City, specializes in the manufacturing of smoke generating
devices and ultrasonic test
instrumentation.
In the early 1950's the Superior Signal Company was originally contracted to manufacture
military and ship distress signals for government
agencies. These signals were usually
colored smoke, and not suitable for civilian purposes. In 1954, the company developed
a safe, non-staining smoke
containing no explosive materials for civilian applications.
Many innovative applications for smoke were developed. Most significant was the Superior
Smoke Testing Technique for inflow/infiltration studies
of underground sewerage systems.
Smoke testing has been used extensively for almost 50 years, and is recommended
by the National Association of Sewer
Service Contractors, and the Water Environment
Federation.
These inexpensive smoke generators are also widely used for leak testing ductwork,
furnaces, tanks and piping. They are highly effective for
observing air flow patterns, evaluating
fume/exhaust, and smoke control systems. Other applications include firefighter training,
and motion picture
special effects.
The Superior Signal Company, Inc. has continued to expand its operations by supporting
current business, and creating new applications and markets
for the product line.
In 1991, after many years of research and development the company introduced the
AccuTrak model VPX Ultrasonic Leak Detector. The VPX was developed
for heavy industry
in plant maintenance applications including compressed gas leaks, vacuum leaks,
detection of bearing wear and internal leaks
through valves or steam traps. The AccuTrak
model VPE was later developed specifically for the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration industry,
and has quickly
become the leading ultrasonic detector in the market.
